Description

What does a Taser work?
They deliver a modulated electric current designed to disrupt voluntary control of muscles, causing “neuromuscular incapacitation”. The effects of a TASER device may only be localized pain or strong involuntary long muscle contractions, based on the mode of use, connectivity and location of the darts on the body.

What happens when a person gets tased?
When activated, a stun gun is pressed against an attacker, causing electricity to travel through their skin and deliver a sharp pain as long as the weapon remains in contact. TASER energy weapons, on the other hand, deploy probes from a distance to induce neuromuscular incapacitation (NMI).

What are the disadvantages of a Taser?
Use may result in secondary injuries such as minor skin irritation, blistering, bruising and lacerations. More substantial injuries may occur if a person falls onto hard surfaces. It has been reported that in some overseas law enforcement agencies there is an over-reliance on the use of Tasers.

Can I protect myself with a Taser?
Self-defense is generally only justified in response to an immediate threat of violence. Use of a Taser in situations that are not legally self-defense or use of a Taser as a weapon against another person may be considered assault and can lead to both criminal prosecution and civil liability.

Can you touch someone who has been tasered?
Touching someone who gets tasered might shock you, but usually, it does not. The stun device sends electricity into the person’s body between two points. So, if you’re not in that path, you should be safe.

What will a TASER do to a dog?
In extreme cases the animal can die. TASER probes can cause significant injury if deployed into sensitive areas of the body such as the eyes, throat, or genitals.

What’s the difference between a TASER and a stun gun?
Key Differences Between Stun Guns and TASERs®

Stun guns require you to be within arm’s reach of the potential assailant as they are not effective unless they are touching the assailant’s body. The TASER® is designed to be fired from a distance; however, some models can also be used as drive-stun devices.

What does a TASER do to the body?
This current activates nerves under the skin which then cause muscles to contract. When this happens, the contractions produced by the CED override a person’s ability to make voluntary movements – the person will not be able to run away or physically attack someone.

What happens if you TASER someone who is wet?
Due to water’s role as a conductor of electricity, it’s not recommended to use a taser on someone who is wet as it could amplify the effects, potentially causing severe injury.

When not to use a TASER?
The TASER shall not be used to torture, psychologically torment, elicit statements or to punish any individual.

How long does a TASER incapacitate someone?
5-second cycles
This muscular incapacitation only continues for as long as the Taser discharge is applied. The Taser discharges in 5-second cycles; this can be re-engaged but equally can be cut short by turning the safety function on. Recovery should be almost instant.

Are some people immune to being tased?
Some people just have higher thresholds of pain. The target might be under the influence of a drug that is basically making them resistant to the pain. Maybe even just enough adrenaline can push a person through it.

What mark does a Taser leave?
Skin effects: May leave marks at site of probe contact, called “signature marks” Small puncture wound from barbs. Burns from ignition of explosive or ignitable materials (gasoline) have been reported.
